RIM's Blackberry 10 software was due out later this year, but RIM has announced that the date has been put back to early 2013.

The troubled telephone maker has just reported a $513m loss on a turnover of $2.8bn, and plans to shed a further 5,000 employees as part of cost-reduction measures.

Meanwhile, they plan to produce a smaller range of devices, including phones with QWERTY keyboards and touch-screen input.

They say that they sold 7.8 million BlackBerrys and 260,000 PlayBook tablets in the last financial quarter.  That's approximately half of the volumes shipped during the previous quarter (Q4 2011).

However, the company still has substantial cash reserves of $2.2bn, and so a chance to turn its fortunes around.
