A distributed computing project by Vijay Pande and Stanford University Folding@Home is quite possibly one of the most important things your computer, or Playstation 3, will ever be used for. It is hoped that the study of how protiens within the body "fold" will eventually lead to cures for at least some the most prevalent illnesses in the world today, such as certain cancers, Alzheimers, CJD, and the Flu.
