Page 3 of 18 Atari 2600First launched in the USA in 1977, the 2600 was the first console to employ game cartridges. The unit was originally known as the Atari VCS. It was sold with tow joysticks and paddle controllers. The price in the US was $199. It soon became immensely popular. The processor was a MOS 6507. Pac Man was the most played game on the 2600.
