Installation and Configuration

Installing the hardware is a simple matter of plugging everything in.  There are no software drivers to install.  If the device is connected to a PC, then it is assumed you already have a wired ethernet adaptor installed and working.  Game consoles, such as the PS3, have a working ethernet port - the DWL-G810 simply plugs straight in to that.

I am installing this device within an existing network consisting of PCs and a Netgear wireless ADSL router.  This situation is known as infrastructure mode.  When connecting, say two consoles together with no router, this is known as ad-hoc mode.  The supplied manuals explain this along with diagrams.  It is important to know which mode you will be using before configuring the device.

Once up and running, the bridge can be configured via a web browser based interface. Accessing this is just a matter of keying the device's default IP address in to the browser adress bar, on the PC to which the DWL-G810 is connected.

The IP address of the PC will most likely need to be set manually before connection is possible, this can be done in Windows via the Control Panel.  Once the bridge is configured, the PC can be configured to "Obtain IP automatically" - it may not be possible to connect to the internet unless this is set.

The "Run Wizard" button can be used for quick and easy set-up.
