Forceware 67.66 drivers are the next progression of the 67.22 drivers.
These new beta drivers feature Half-Life 2 / Counter-Strike: Source
optimisation without the source engine quality defects of the 71.xx
drivers.
These drivers also enable "PureVideo" via the video processor present
in Nvidia 6200, 6600 and 6800 series GPUs. Very interesting technology
if you are into video encoding / decoding and high definition video.
Some features require the Nvidia DVD decoder driver which is sold
seperately .
Solid drivers, new features, well worth a look.

From Nvidia:
Release Highlights:
* Updated SLI support for all GeForce 6800 GPUs
* Enables PureVideo technology on GeForce 6 Series GPUs.*
*To fully experience NVIDIA PureVideo technology in GeForce 6 Series GPUs, the following software support is required:
* 3:2 pull down, MPEG-2 acceleration, and advanced de-interlacing
require the NVIDIA DVD Decoder with Windows Media Player or Windows
Media Center Edition
* VMR Scaling requires VMR9 support found in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Also it should be noted that these drivers are newer than the 71.xx drivers.
the 67.xx and 71.xx have been developed at the same time by nvidia.
the 67.xx drivers are currently what nvidia is releasing for the GeForce series, particularly 6200s 6600s 6800s.
the 71.xx series are intended to be quadro drivers for workstation GPUs.
given this, 67.xx drivers are developed with optimisation and bug fixes
for games in each release, while the 71.xx series are developed with
3dsmax / maya type aplications in mind.
the drivers do cross over well as essentially they are for the same
core, but keep in mind thats why 71.xx drivers lack purevideo support
and have glitches in 3d games (such as the ut2004 bug found by
grahamgarside and also the CS:S de_aztec bug).
This is why the latest driver release from Valance Studios is based on 67.66 rather than the next quadro driver (71.40)
the 6800GT / Ultra AGP seam to be missing 1 or 2 of the purevideo
functions. The PCI-e versions of the cards have it, the 6600 and 6200
have it, and even SOME of the AGP 6800GT/ultras have it. the 6800 NU
(second version that is, originally 6800s were 16 pipeline chips with 4
pipes disabled newer 6800s are dedicated 12 pipe chips) has purevideo
apparently.
It really is a bit hard to track.
This is nvidia's explanation of the technology http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo.html
make sure you bring a crowbar to seperate the marketing from the facts.
This page is a list of supported nvidia hardware, and to what extent the hardware supports it.

how true it is remains to be seen. Ask questions and discuss this in the FORUMS! |
