Jedi Skills
The skill system in the game is simply huge. You have a choice of
over 30 skills! This can be rather daunting when you’re playing
especially if you’ve not played the original KOTOR. For those who
haven’t had a chance to play the original or those who just can’t be
bothered, the game also features an option that allows it to manage the
skills of your party. This could be useful for younger players or those
who are just plain lazy. In the same vein, conversations also have a
large number of choices. Depending on how you answer various parts of
conversations you may find that parts of the game are significantly
different. Answer one way and you’ll find that some people like you.
Answer differently and you’ll find they’re ready to kill you instead!
My biggest gripe was just how long it took to obtain a light-saber.
It’s not just a case of someone handing you one, you actually have to
take the time and trouble to build it instead. It took me some 12 hours
to retrieve all the parts needed, so it seems to take a long time for
something that’s a key element to the Jedi. If you’re in a rush this
might become frustrating.
On the subjects of gripes, the sound somewhat lets the game down.
It’s still the same old blaster noises and the usual Star Wars music.
In many ways it ends up feeling somewhat generic which is perhaps
strange given what the films did to cinema sound.
Praise
Useful features for beginners
Non-linear game play
Lots of character customizations
Gripes
Took 12 hours to get a light-saber
Still an RPG, not RPG/Action
Generic sound effects
Final Word
From my perspective, most aspects of this game were flawless apart
from the sound. The game feels like it’s a must for those die-hard
fans, but successfully offers much to attract newcomers too. Features
like the automatic skill management means that newcomers don’t have so
much to concentrate upon until they’re ready to take on those tasks.
Feel free to discuss this game here.
