Game Overview

This the third castle simulator and combat game in the Stronghold series offers a greatly enhanced 3D graphics engine. But, what else does this game offer to us?

In the game you play the Lord of land with your own castle, troops, peasants, farms, estates and so on to command and control. There are two main elements of play, management of resources and warfare. However, you can play the game in a peaceful mode where there are no enemy armies to deal with.

The management aspect of the game allows you, as the Lord, to construct new buildings and gather building and food resources. You can design and construct the castle defences including wooden and stone walls. Extra defences can be employed, such as towers, traps and burning logs. Which brings us on to the combat side of things.

Once you have built-up enough resources you can start to create a sizeable army which can be used to defend your castle and outlying estates or to attack your opposition's armies, castles and industries. The fighters range from simple peasants armed with pikes up to siege equipment such as trebuchets and burning carts.

As you can see in the screenshots the textures and models used in the game are very nicely made. The screenshots were taken in free view mode, so the game controls are not visible.

Next up, we'll take a look at the campaign mode and the finer details of Stronghold 2.
