"Today cell phone numbers are private. That will soon change because the cell phone industry is preparing to launch the first 411 directory of cell phone numbers.  And it's the cell phone companies themselves who are writing the rules for how and when your cell phone number will be made public.  

You should have the choice to list your cell phone number, but industry-written rules don't guarantee you'll have that choice.  Legislation pending in Congress will give us control over listing our cell numbers and prohibit charging for unlisted numbers.  

But Congress has to act fast before the industry directory is rolled out later this year. Fill out the form below to tell Congress to give us control of our cell numbers and keep companies from charging us for unlisted numbers." Consumers Union
