There are also portals that appear out of nowhere, that bad guys will pour out of, and that you can travel through to access new areas of the ship.

One of your special abilities is the spirit walk, basically where your spirit walks out of your body and allows you to explore ahead unseen, walk through force fields, and flip switches to allow your physical body to continue on its path (really neat). Also, along these lines is what happens when you die. Gone is the old task of reloading your last save and trying again. Now you go on a “death walk”, where you travel to the spirit realm and must fight to regain health and return to your body so you can continue the fight, exactly where you where killed. It is a welcome change from the old way and works to keep the action going.

Conclusion

Visually the game is stunning. Human Head Studios did a fantastic job optimizing the engine, as it has never looked so good. Along with the visuals is the audio, which is very well done. The surround is perfect and is really immersive. All through the ship you can hear it moving and breathing, along with the screams of the humans that were abducted. The voice acting is also very well done, and very believable. It really helps to convey the emotion of what is happening, and there is even a voice for Tommy (so your character actually speaks), something missing from most games today.

My overall experience with Prey was a good one. Sure there are areas which could have been a little better, but while you are playing it these shortcomings are hardly noticeable and do not take away from the experience. The story is very well presented and plays at a good pace, with very satisfying action. The end is open for a sequel and they promise it will continue, so there is more to look forward to.

The game is still too new for the multi-player to get going, but i have no doubt that it will be fantastic. All the gravity switching, wall walking goodness is intact, so hopefully i will see you on line for some portal traveling frags.

If you are a fan of FPS, i can definitely recommend checking this game out, as there are a lot of new ideas at work here that make for a fresh gaming experience.  If you're not a fan of this type of game, you might want to give this game a chance as this one might change your mind.
