Core 2 Extreme vs. Athlon 64 FX-62 Print
Written by Gizmo

Tom's Hardware has a face-off between the Core 2 Extreme Edition and the Athlon 64 FX-62 that is well worth reading.  They take both systems and tweak them to get maximum CPU performance.  There are a few things that become rapidly and readilly apparent: The FX-62 is pushing the limits of AMD's 90nM fabrication process, as it is barely overclockable (2.8 GHz default to 3.05 GHz overclocked), while the Conroe has some SIGNFICANT headroom (2.93 GHz default to 3.68 GHz overclocked); the FX-62 memory controller still rocks compared to Intel's FSB scheme, and the Conroe delivers significanlty better performance at significantly lower power levels than the FX-62.

So, nothing really new here, but it does further drive home the point that AMD has got some serious competition from Intel in the Conroe.
