Sony PlayStation

The PlayStation was first made available in Japan, by Sony, in 1994. It was launched in the US and Europe in 1995.

The main processor is a MIPS R3000A-compatible (R3501) 32-bit RISC running at 33.8688 MHz. It has a 1024 byte data cache.

Main memory is 2MB of RAM and 1MB of video RAM. Sound memory is 512KB. The PlayStation memory cards have 128KB on an EEPROM, these allow for the saving of game data.

Games are supplied on CD-ROMs.
