RFID - Radio Frequency IDentification. As many of you know, this has
been a buzzword for several years now. It is considered by some to be the
'holy grail' of data gathering, and human convenience. It can allow a
super market to easily and quickly talley up your bill, automatically, without
the need of a sales clerk. It can allow a store owner to take inventory in
minutes instead of hours or days. And it can lead to the total loss of
your privacy.
A little chip implanted under your skin can allow you to prove your
identity electronically, giving you access to secured areas automatically.
It can also give someone your credit card information, date of birth, current
physical (and mental health), whether there are any outstanding warrants for
your arrest, and possibly how many times you went to the bathroom today.
Not scared yet? Maybe you should be.

This update comes to AOA's front pages later than I had hoped it would. This due to certain problems with Suse which eventually led to fits of despair...I kid you not!
So this is the story as best as I can remember it. But it must be read with the same understanding and appreciation of circumstance one would afford a fresh, new war correspondent who thought he was being assigned to an International flower show.

Global warming - it doesn't seem to matter your background, all seem to view global warming as a problem that's really happening. However, what do you think about the matter? Stigweed started a thread all off with a blasé "It's sort of ironic to think that the "evil corporations" that have been kicking their heels over climate change are now the ones who are looking into limiting, stopping and reversing it.". Logan quickly threw in a
"Whatever happened to that horrible burning death we were going to suffer because of the hole in the ozone layer?". Yan then chimed in with "Using the exclusion of developing countries as a reason for not ratifying it is pure bs - their emissions are so low in comparison, and no cuts would be possible anyway.". Coolgeek24751 felt that
"In sumerey I believe that we should spend money on alternative recources instead of retrofitting our current ones." However, Kaitain chimed in with "Oh sure we do - it's fairly simple fluid mechanics", and they were off again!
What do you think about global warming? Perhaps we shouldn't overclock our machines so heavily? |

RussianMissile1 has created an install package that takes away all of the pain of setting up Folding@Home to run as a service. This makes it easier than ever to set a machine up for folding, while also ensuring that the machine will be folding as long as it is turned on, even if no one is logged in!

Time to rejoin the watercoolers!
Yesterday I thought it was time to rejoin the watercooling scene, the main reason was my x800 pro modded to XT PE was crashing due to heat.
Even with a zalman heatpipe installed it was still running hot so here goes.
After reading ET's post about moddding his case to fit the radiator in the front I thought along the same lines, first drill out the rivets holding the second hdd caddy in place to leave a nice clean space for the radiator, next I mounted the fan which the radiator attaches to.....

If you've run into the problem where XP SP2 only allows you to have 10 pending connection attempts to machines, then you'll know this rather kills performance for peer to peer programs such as BitTorrent. You'll know when you've run into this problem, as you can examine the event log and see many "EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts." messages.
Fear not, as this is set by a value in the TCPIP.SYS driver. However, setting it to a different value involves patching the TCPIP.SYS driver. Fortunately for us, LvlLord put together his hard work into a patcher program that will practically remove the limit! You can find LvlLord's hard work over at his home page.
