IIRC, some groups of Eastern Native Americans handed their captured POW's over to their women for punishment. 'Twas said to be extraordinarily painful. I know I'm glad I missed the experience! I'm happy that you enjoyed "sense8." I find Jamie Clayton as Nomi Marks amazingly beauteous and Tina Desai as Kala from Mumbai is a total knockout, literally breathtaking in one of the wedding scenes. Tuppence Middleton isn't beautiful imho, yet she is a powerful actress indeed. Aml Ameen is so good that I was convinced he was from Nairobi, Max Riemelt plays the tough guy and an enlightened character from Berlin extremely well and I must not leave Doona Bae as Sun Bak out of the praise list. What a powerful actor! This was the best series of films I can remember seeing in a lifetime. Netflix is a mixed blessing yet it deserves KUDOS for "sense8".

I was curious if Arnold Schwarzenegger could really change his spots on screen, so I watched "Maggie" (2015) a few nights ago. He was a character so different than his usual self that I almost forgot it was him. Well done. If he can ever totally negate who we're used to seeing I'll give him high praise. It's an unhappy movie from beginning to end, Abigail Breslin is very competent in this role, I think she's a good actor with plenty of promise. Low marks from imdb and I agree, it isn't a great film. I greatly enjoyed "Seeking a Friend For the End of the World" (2012), starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. She plays a younger un-dolled up slightly wacky character to his middle aged rather dull persona. The screenplay is very well done and moves along snartly. She is always gorgeous, whether in ten thousand dollar costume or no fashion street clothes. Poor Steve Carell is a very good actor cursed with the beak from Hades, yet they slowly warm to each other. imdb says 6.7, I liked it a lot more. Recommended.

Watching a couple of Danish tv series, into the second season of "Rita," an interesting schoolteacher who has the finest rear end in all of Scandinavia. Just seeing her walking away from the camera is a treat for sore eyes. Just saw the first episode of "Borgen," a political tale that gets extremely high marks in Denmark. It's interesting enough to want to see the second installment, I have the first three thanks to Netflix. Saw "Lucy" (2014) this weekend, I found it to be a great mind blowing action movie. The 6.4 from imdb seems ungenerous, I think it's better. I love Luc Besson, this isn't one of his best efforts but I give it two thumb's up. Started on the second season of "The Blacklist" (2013-). It lacks some of the surprise of the first season, yet James Spader is a superb actor, he can make mud fascinating.

Finished "The Blacklist" Season 2, "The Killing" Season 4 and "Orphan Black" Season 3. "The Blacklist" 2nd season seems to be the end of the story line. Or one could say it ends in a meaningful pause. No worries, Season 3 is already here or on the way. Can't call it great, I'm not in a sweat to see the third season. "The Killing" Season 4 steals far too much from the first season, don't waste the time or moolah. I can't completely recommend any season of "The Killing," although I've only seen the first and fourth. Season 1 was OK. Tatiana Maslany is such a fine actress that "Orphan Black" from BBC America could probably go on and on and on. She's truly great. I hope another dramatic vehicle will be created for her. Still in TV land, the Danish series "Borgen" is worthwhile, I've seen the first six episodes. It was Stephen King's favorite when it was new, fwiw. Saw "The Drop" (2014) late last night. Starring Tom Hardy, (a very capable actor) Noomi Rapace who gets better in every movie, I quite like her and James Gandolfini who plays a very un-good man. The tension tightens every minute, I highly recommend it. Great if slightly claustrophobic because it takes place in a small neighborhood in Brooklyn crime drama.

You really ought to watch the 'Everything Wrong With' for Lucy. It's pretty funny, as long as you don't mind the profanity. Everything Wrong With Lucy in 15 Minutes or Less — Cinema Sins — No movie is without sins. |

You're right, "Lucy" was a turn off your brain and simply enjoy type of flick. It worked well at that level. Unfortunately the movie machine that made "Lucy" copyrighted it off of Cinema Sins. Interesting site though, thank you!

Guffaw, how embarrassing for me. "Lucy" was MUCH worse than I realized. I noticed a small handful of goofs while watching it, but they were really epic. For shame, Luc Besson! I see that a pretty face can cover up a huge pile of poor screenwriting. Excellent find Gizmo, thank you!

Like I said, entertaining in a 'Switch Off Your Brain' kind of way. ![]() Don't feel bad, I didn't realize how bad Lucy was until I switched my brain back on. Then I saw the EWW critique and I was like "How did I miss that?" |

Still no DVD's from Netflix, don'tcha love paying and not getting? Saw "Antichrist" (2009) starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe last weekend. Hoo boy, I guess Lars von Trier can be counted on to make disturbing films? Rates 6.6 from imdb, but for pure horror of possible human actions it rates off the scale. Probably best viewed by those without health problems of the heart. Only recommended for those truly bored with life...maybe.

Did you get anything from Netflix yet? |
| ||||
I received two DVD's from Netflix on Tuesday last, I'll wait till the weekend to spin them. They are both in bad shape, wish me luck.. Unfortunately the delay was partially my fault, my queue was empty. Once upon a time they told you that it was empty. No longer, love how service improves for everything over time.

Toothpaste usually works to restore disks that are scuffed. Though, since you are paying for the service, you'd think they would take care of that. |

Saw "Changeling" (2008) recently, how can you not be fascinated by Angelina Jolie, even when covered in thick makeup? She's such a good actor and so amazingly beautiful you could say that I'm putty in her imaginary hands. Very well done period piece, directed by Clint Eastwood, I recommend it. Speaking of the Pitt and Jolie partnership, I have to recommend "Fury"(2014) too. It's very nitty gritty in the war film genre and realistically grim. The ending came as a surprise, at least to me.
