Running memory out of sync...

Just fitted some PC3200 memory. My cpu is a xp3000 with a 333mhz bus.

I can run the memory out of sync, i.e. at 400mhz with the CPU at 333mhz. Is this a bad idea? I read somewhere that it is best to keep it 1:1 on an nforce 2 board.
Desktop PC: AMD FX-8370E / Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 Motherboard / 16GB DDR3 RAM / GeForce GTX 970

It's best to keep it at 1:1 for performance reasons. You will see a performance hit if you run it async to the CPU, EVEN if the memory runs faster than the CPU.
