Question 1700+ tbred,gigabyte 7VAX overclocking

I have the above processor and mobo. I have no agp or pci locks available. What can I do to get this machine to fly without harddrive corruption?

what your shootin for is 166 mhz syncronus to start out with, shouldn't be to hard on that board with a newer chip, my kid runs the same setup.

I've overclocked to 1750 mhz with my multipier set to 12, voltage set to 7.5 and fsb to 145. Ran stable, but had messed up files. AGP went up to 72 and can't remember what pci was. I know that this processor has potential. Any help for this greenhorn would be much appreciated.

Ok. There are two possible reasons for hard drive corruption. First possibility is your HD running out of spec on the PCI bus and your HD doesn't like running out of spec. The second possibility is your memory not liking high FSB. Your board is based on a KT400 chipset. If your memory can take it, you want to drop your multiplier and raise the FSB to 166. At 166, the 1/6 PCI divider will kick in and your hard disk will run in spec again at 33Mhz.

Mook meant the 1/5 divisor. You should be able to reach that with no problems. My 8K3A+ with the KT333 ran great at 209 with a 1/5 divisor. But from what I've read, it was easier to hit higher FSB with the KT333 than it was with the KT400.

Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket. Must have had a brain freeze.
