It does work like that. It's an entirely realistic concept, just nobody has tried it before because as the page states, it isn't at all practical.

That turbo is so little. LOL.

If you follow the link to how they built it. http://raktron.com/turbopc/buildup.html

And look at the second photo down on the left hand side. That car (not sure what it is) has a turbo charger. By the size of the front mount intercooler, i'd say its a pretty big turbo!

I want to turbo charge my car for bragging rights, but it wont net me much performance gain, so I probably wont bother. And if it wont net my car performance, what the hell is it going to do for my computer? I'll tell you: diddly squat!

Q: Does it really work?
A: Of course. It's just not very practical, and I honestly don't plan to run the "cooling system" on a regular basis, just once in a while for a laugh.

Bring the turbo up to the speeds it's designed to operate at (100,000RPM) and it might be more interesting. That would need an intercooler, as compressing air tends to warm it up a bit. Provide an expansion valve at the end of the intercooler to allow the compressed air to come back down to normal pressure. As the air is decompressed, it should cool down below ambient temperature.

Technically possible, but limited practical application. Would probably be expensive and noisy, and an aircon unit would be easier to use.

Yeah, it looks cool, but it would have been mighty 'spensive.

I wouldn't, personally, try it myself, but it's an amazing mod. Kudos to the makers. =D
