Hey~ the supermicro SC760A-300/SC760A-400 server chassies would work~ ive built servers in these things before and the cooling is GREAT~ |
| ||||
the ones I have are AT, but the "1030" type cases get my vote, although the supermicros are pretty tough, I think the toughest I ever saw was a PC Pwer&cooling full tower, like a tank!! but kinda pricey if I remember right ![]()

I think that the Personal Mid-Tower from PC Power&Cooling fills the bill. They are tough puppies! Lots of spot welds, few rivets. They mount the traditional 2 80mms. This must be improved upon for an AMD box, IMHO. They're $49 atm. No PS, of course. May I suggest the Silencer 400 model from PC P&C? The 350W Turbo-Cool is quite reasonable. 'Fraid that the 300W Turbo-Cool just doesn't cut it for AMD boxen--unless you're very careful with your components. www.pcpowercooling.com . Their towers are said to suck, but the Personal Mid has nearly Mil-spec construction. I'll order another if I get much more po'd at this POS Enlight 7237.

I'm afraid those of you suggesting the Antec/Chieftec and Supermicro/Addtronics, and even PC Powe&Cooling cases don't seem to know what kind of case I'm talking about. I'm talking about cases made from 0.060"(16GA 1.5mm) cold rolled steel, held together with stainless steel pop-rivets. Yes, they really used to make some server towers that gosh darned heavy. It is a shame I can't find something comparable for today's ATX motherboards . . .

i know someone who might be able to get you a seriously old school case (though you might have to put some holes in it) ill pm you his email shortly i cant rember the website (what he'll prolly have is some old scientific equip case or a reallly old comp case who knows... the guy has a whole warehouse of parts.... some older than him....) |

I have an old IBM AT server tower. Its sturdy as anything. It has a label saying "28 KG +" on it, lol. Needless to say, its not good for LAN parties. Hehe. It has a nice 386DX and two BIG hard drives of about 40 MB each. I think its along these lines you are looking, is it not Jeff? I'll go see if I can find anything like it that is ATX and NEW!

btw Jeff, why don't you convert an AT to an ATX? it's not really too hard?

I prefer the rivets over spot welds on a case, if you ever have to mod a spot welded case you have to take like a half inch drill to each spot, Whereas with the rivets, you can drill them out with a modest bit and either replace them or use bolts. Hmmm when you're browsing cases maybe checking the shipping weights would give you a clue as to how sturdy they are. Road Warrior
