The art of water cooling (for a noob)

Well over the last few days I have been thinking "how do I make my PC faster?" and really the only answer I have is either go to intel but then I dont want the hassle of changing mobo and cpu etc as I have just done that. Or I could overclock my cpu even more with the use of water cooling.

I am thinking of using a smallish set up to start with maybe just to cool the CPU as my gfx cards are not overclocked at all. The only problem I see is that my case does not have a lot of room in it at all so I may need to get a bigger case to start with.

So really question is what sort of kit would be good to start with baring in mind I have no experience with water cooling.

If you have a small case, there are plenty of external units that will serve you well. I believe that Daniel uses one. You could also build an external unit yourself. I have seen this done plenty of times. I will post a couple of links after I dig them up.

Pretty and quiet. Not for an overclocker though. Koolance and corsair are the first that come to mind.

There are some others.

here is one from Asetek

that PSU fan seems to be pulling exactly the opposite way to the nearest one of your GFX card coolers. I would suggest a bigger case even if you dont go WC

that is true I think I made a bad choice when I built my rig I didnt realise the Galaxy would be so big or the 8800's be so wide and the case being so small. If I water cooled both my gfx cards would that not free up enough room for it to work efficently?

Mate, have you considered the Thermaltake Kandalf LCS?

In terms of case size, its about as big as you could possibly want, with all the room for a full sized ATX mobo (abit/epox style), with plenty room to spare between it and the drive cages. It has a top blowhole, rear 14cm fan, rear 92mm fan, and in the front, it has 3X12cm fans blowing over a massive 12cmX36CM radiator.

The watercooling is all completely contained, but unlike every other all in one on the market, this one has a very good waterblock, a very big radiator, and a very neat and clean design.

It also mounts the PSU on its side, rather than flat, which is actually a far better position to have it in for both cables, and cooling.

Heres the thread I started about it with lots of pics, including a comparison to a TT Xaser II, which is just an aluminium version of those old Antec / chieftecs we all had in the day.

ocuk have some http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=7&subcat=715
not that i would recomend buying from that company mind ...

I have a thermaltake bigwater 745 cooling mine similar sort of kit as the kandalf just mounted externally, i currently have a 2x120mm rad and a single 120mm rad wedged in the opening of my window drawing in nice and cool air it really made a difference over the winter as i had coolant temperatures around 0 degrees

edit scrub that link it doesnt include the lcs will go hunt some more
it seems the coolingshop is all out of them as well.

seems to be a lack of kandalfs, the novatech do have 7 of these, http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?TT-ARMORSL

gotcha, it was the last in the list of autherised sellers by thermaltake but they have a few silver ones in stock apparently!
