| new comp doesn't work...help please!! I just bought this computer from my buddy for 20 bucks. It crashed so he put it in his closet and the family got a new one. I bought it from him and brought it home because my pal said all I need to do is format the hard drives and reload an os. I have a copy of xp and all the bits and pieces. I plugged it all in and turned everything on. It doesn't send any signal to the monitor( it still blinks like it is on standby) and makes no attempt to boot from what I can tell. Can anybody tell me what to do to get this thing to work. All help will be much appreciated. Also, if you have aim, feel free to instant message me at xgregrandomx. I am online quite often.

| what kind of machine is it? (i.e. CPU/motherboard/RAM/etc.) have you checked if the vid card is properly seated? have you tried replacing the video card?

| I did it yesterday after I posted. I got curious so I took out the video card and put it back in. I hooked it up and it all worked fine. I don't think it ever crashed in the first place. The funiest part about getting it back up and running was seeing how much porn my friend had on that thing. HEHEHE. Thank you for bothering to help anyways. I just recently decided to branch out into the pc scene. Don't hate me because I don't know how to format hard drives though...its not my fault...I have had all macs since i was young. I can make a mac stand on its ears.  Do I get any brownie points for that?

| Welcome to AOA, gregrandom. Good to see you here! If you took the time and trouble to learn Macs well, learning the PC way to do things can't be all that hard. Our positions are about the same. While I can't quite stand a PC on its ear, I've never even seen a modern Mac!

| why thank you very much for the lovely welcome! I am just taking my time to learn more about computers in general. I may know a lot but there is still a lot I don't know so hopefully I will learn many things from the various sections of this forum. I am really into artistic design and electronics so I will probably spend most of my time in the mod section. Thanx again for the welcome.
