Exclamation 8RGA+ problems... Machine Won't BOOT

I have just finished assembling a machine including
1 Western Digital 40gb hardrive
1 Epox 8RGA+
1 AMD ATHLON XP 2000+
1 stick of 512mb Infineon DDR
The monitor I am using is a Hyundai LCD (Imagequest L50s).
NOTE: i have not overclocked anything at this stage, i can't even get into the damn BIOS
When i attempted to boot for the first time into the BIOS the monitor displayed nothing and the harddrive made an extremely high-pitched extremely scary noise.
I swapped the squealing harddrive for an older one from another box and it makes some promising clicks but I still get no display.
Also, the debug LED on the 8RGA+ shows only the POST code 'FF'.
What could be the problem and how can I fix it? Could the faulty harddrive have damaged something, could the CPU be damaged? I was always grounded when working so I highly doubt electro static damage has caused this problem.
Is the problem something to do with dual-display support on the 8RGA+ motherboard? Do I have to set the motherboard for only one monitor (as i am only using one).
The computer does not respond to any input whatsoever (keyboard) and does not provide any visual signal. The case speaker makes no noise and the debug LED never changes. Their is some brief harddrive activity after switching on the power however that is the end of any activity. I do not hear the RAM being counted.
Any help or advice will be helpful.
Many apologies for the crazy-long post... but i am desperate.

Welcome to AOA, nurzibup!

This problem has popped up before. Dang it, I can't remember the solution atm, sorry. Have you looked up what "FF" means? You might try the old strip everything off of the mainboard except for the CPU, Vidcard and one stick of RAM trick. If she POST's, add one component at a time and reboot.

For some reason, nForce and nForce2 m'boards tend to be APITA about the AGP slot. The Vidcard must be well and truly seated.

I already tried the strip it down trick.... no luck, i am running nothing but cpu and ram on the board..... still not booting.
I just contacted an EPoX support centre and they think it is a CPU problem.

Bump. AFAIK, the "FF" error code has been reported and dealt with before. Admittedly, it was with an 8RDA+, but the 8RGA+...is it all that different?

From a recent post, "FF" allegedly means "Fully Functioning," at least with an 8K7A+. It would be good to add a Vidcard to the CPU and RAM that are on the board for testing purposes. You can't see anything on the monitor without the Vidcard. Sorry, that sounds condescending--it's not meant to. If the jumper to select single or dual display needs to be set for a single monitor does setting it to single display make a difference?

Is this CPU new? If not, was it OC'd in the past? Is the processor's fan connected to a three-pin fan riser on the mainboard? If the fan moves more than 27cfm, is it connected to the main power daisy chain, with the fan's tachometer wire(only) connected to the mobo's 3-Pin fan riser?

What PSU do you have in this new machine? If the moon is in June, and your case is black, this may cause the problem. Just Kidding!
