That sounds like a thermal trip |
| ||||
Was it working OK before at -30C? I thought A64's had problems at temps lower than something like -20C where the sensor doesn't work correctly. |

On air or water? Rob

Isn't the thermal trip built into the cpu? or is that just with intel chips? |
| ||||
Ive had a problem like that on my Abit AV8 when I accidentally plugged the CPU fan into the northbridge fan header. There aren't all that many other things that make it shut down that soon other that that or a thermal shutdown. Athlon 64s should actually wait alot longer than 2 seconds to shut down, as the CPU is supposed to try thermal throttling before it shut down, but i guess it could still happen. I honestly dont know where the thermal shutdown is, but it has to be supported and turned on in the BIOS for it to work, and some motherboards dont have it at all so i dont think its in the CPU. The CPU is however meant to throttle in 3 steps before it takes any other action. 75% 50% then 25%. And at 25% most Winchesters can run passively in a large case.

One word, con-den-sation OK that's three! But this is why I gave away my Vapochill, could never keep it dry for more than three months, would get flakier and flakier until I opened it up and let everything dry for a few days. Good news is that it always did startup again after drying, just got tired of the hassle. Anyway worth considering...
