Red face Lenovo N200 disassembly?

Well this is seriously embarrassing: genius me sprayed my shiny laptop with beer. Great globs of beer entered the machine's keyboard. Now the major part of the laptop is fine - I'm using it now, but the keyboard is mechanical, not membrane, and I'm assuming it's still drunk as most of the keys don't respond.

Anyway, I can't figure out how to get the case off this thing to get the kb out and sober it up. Anyone know where the service manuals are?

Thanks to the genius at M$ who had the sense to bundle an on-screen keyboard!

Never mind. Found the service manual.

You might want to post the link for any others who encounter beer...

I do remember one company who kept their company fridge in the server room. Cue someone opening a bottle of coke, and having it spray several servers (and a laptop).

I'll get the camera out tomorrow morning and repeat the process - 'tis a doddle to remove the keyboard when you know how.

Lenovo 3000 N100 and N200 series laptops disassembly guide and parts list is here: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs...42x3553_02.pdf

Sadly, closer examination reveals that beer is rather toxic to keyboards. It appears the keyboard had mechanical components (for a nice typing experience, like a proper desktop keyboard) but is a rather badly-sealed membrane keyboard underneath. The ribbon cable connecting keyboard to laptop is located under the space bar. At this point, there's no sealing strip or similar, and this is where the beer entered the unit.

Perhaps it'll come to life in a few months. In the meantime I happen to have found a bluetooth keyboard to use until I can be bothered to contact a spare parts supplier.

I suppose this is a flaw in Lenovo's design: I once drowned a Dell laptop in Dr Pepper, which continued to work perfectly until the mould finally grew out from between the keys.

Me + laptops = disaster

When I last purchased a IBM/Lenovo keyboard, it wasn't too expensive. For some reason, the company I worked for had ordered machines in the US, and decided that a US keyboard layout was good enough for us.
