DRM for HD Disks Is Already Broken
By David DeJean
Information Weekly
The bigger they are, the harder they fall: A couple of years ago, a group of companies with big positions (or big dreams) in the media content business got together to promote the be-all and end-all of copy-protection standards for high-definition video content. Guess what. It's been hacked. Are you shocked and surprised? Neither am I. The problem isn't hackers. The problem is DRM.....

I am not surprised. Probably a 14 year old kid like it always is.

I love their term "Interlectual (sp?) Property".

There isn't anything intelligent about any of the tripe Hollywood turned out in the past couple decades!

Er. How does this demonstrate that the DRM has been hacked? BackupHDDVD will decrypt a disc for you to back it up, if you have both the volume and title keys for that disc. If you don't have both, you can't decrypt it. Each disc has it's own volume and title keys, unlike DVDs (which just had a limited number of keys).

Being able to decrypt something if you have the keys to access it is hardly "hacked".

It's a bit like saying that you can break into a house if you have the door keys and the alarm code. That's not really "breaking" into a house!

Hey! Maybe when we show him how easy it is to bust in he'll think to give us free copies of VISTA!

(It was the bag marked "Swag" that gave me the idea!)

If we're gonna get free copies of Vista the phrase "sack full of s***" springs to mind more readily!
