No, it's not. When you put out information on a public network, that information can be looked at by ANYONE. B******g about 'privacy violations' when you are in public is a red herring.

However, the notion of AT&T 'voluntarily' policing content is a little un-nerving. I have fears of the whole concept of 'net neutrality' going down the toilet if this becomes common-place.

Several things, some of which are pointed out in the article. Chief among these would be that they want to cozy up to the media moguls so that they can push their IPTV service, which they can't do without content. By 'voluntarily' policing their bandwidth, they prove to the media giants that they 'care' about copyright issues and are trying to protect intellectual property. In addition, the bandwidth sucked up by P2P applications can then be used to distribute their IPTV service.

However, I also believe that they see this as a stepping stone to getting around the whole 'net neutrality' argument, by pointing out that there is no way a provider can honor net neutrality while acting to protect copyright and complying with other laws. That opens the door to allowing them to charge differing rates for bandwidth based on who you are and what you are doing.
