Just further along the road.

Kempt Tower, Jersey’s first ever environmental visitor centre, is buzzing with hands-on activities for all ages. Natural history, agriculture, wildlife films, the tower is packed with environmental information. There is a surfing exhibition, military section and breath-taking views from the roof of a genuine Martello Tower. Start exploring Jersey’s wild west from Kempt Tower.

Good place to camp overnight, it's at the top of the sea wall, so you can take an early morning dip in the cold sea, or go surfing.

Here's a good one you can also rent for the night:

For the more adventurous! You have to go with a guide to that one, and alcohol consumption is limited for safety reasons. The tide is dangerous, but it's just where I played as a young kid! It's safe if you are completely familiar with the area and tidal conditions.

I love the National Trust. Here's a place near me:
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main...ke_fulking.htm

I love the names we give plants. Check this out:
Quote:
Sensitive management of the open grassland has helped ensure plants such as Lady's Bedstraw, Ribwort Plantain, Burnet Saxifrage, Round-Headed Rampion and Common Knapweed thrive here. An impressive range of orchids, include the Common Spotted, Bee, Frog and Twayblade, and butterflies such as Adonis and Chalkhill Blues, Grayling, Brown Argus and Green Hairstreak can be seen in season.

Here's a couple of more recent fortifications, German bunkers from WW2.

The first smaller one would have had a heavy machine gun pointing out of that rusted hatch. The pebbles are stuck on as camoflage.

The second photo shows the approximate view the gunner would have had. You can see there is a larger bunker at the top of the sea wall, just further along. The smaller bunker would have defended the larger one from attacking troops. The larger bunker being the one defending the beach.

The sea wall is an anti-tank wall, again that was built by the Germans.

As you can see, the beach would have been perfect for an invading landing, hence all the fortifications. There must be about 100 of these bunkers in this general area.

This is the headland at the end of the beach.

You can see there's another bunker at the top of the cliff.

This is a photo taken on May 9th, 62 years ago:

This one is a re-enactment of that, last year:

Theres a very short film strip I've seen countless times that always makes me weep.

It's was taken in Times square in NY NY.
The women are joyously crying embracing and kissing sailors and solders in the streets... Any sailor, any solder. They seemed so old to me then, so young to me now, but old and young they always seemed like the rebirth of the world after the fire....the greening of the branch tips after the burn off. Their joy is palpable though the decades...

My Mother was in that crowd, a letter from my father in her hands, letter in hand, she kissed very sailor she met, but would not kiss the solders as my father was a Navy man.":O}
