Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM lens sample photos

Just picked up my new lens from the airport.

Few snaps taken on the way home, all handheld. Taken with a 400D body.

First one is the original photo, slightly tweaked and reduced in size so the forum accepts it.

Second is a 100% crop of the same photo, not reduced in size.

Two guys are painting a ferry which had a prang in the harbour last weekend, doh!

Nice and sharp, no adjustment made except reduced in size.

I guess the coast guards are inspecting the ship before it sails again.

Expensive looking jet.

Just noticed that the jet is that new one with the engines above the wings.

Kestrel was a bit far away.

Dragon Fly one is OK, but it flew off after a few seconds.

Still, you can tell he/she is surveying the land below.

Dragon Flys! A truly ancient order! They once had wing spans of 6 feet! As a photographer knows, timing is everything!

But at lest you there for the little guy! ":O}

Was outside in a hedge row, shaded from the sun.

It's no work of art! But, demonstrates the lack of noise in the black background. I think there was leaves in the background, but looks black due to lack of light and slight underexposure.

The bee looks fairly sharp for handheld. Bear in mind that a telephoto lens is not ideal for this type of shot. A proper dedicated macro lens is needed for real good sharpness in close-ups. Although, the macro-mode on some of the better point and shoots do provide good sharpness. But lack in other areas of quality.

I'm trying to get my hands on a digital that can take decent pics in indoor lighting without taking 3 seconds. When I'm at a tournament and want to snap a pic, the action is well past by the time the camera is able to capture the image.
