Thumbs up Which 2600+ for 8KHA+?

I have the rev2.0 mobo and was wondering which version of the 2600+, 133 or 166, is to be used in conjunction with the beta BIOS.

It's finally time for me to replace the 1.3 Tbird!!!:-D

266MHz Bus processor is the only one supported by EP-8KHA+

But the 8KHA+ with good memory probably wont have a problem running at 166mhz! so get the 133 chip and overclock away

But as ET said, anything over 133FSB is NOT supported by EPoX.

I am oc'ing

ET - Thank you for the confimation.

RN - Currently I'm running at 170x9 with turbo timings and using H2O.

*curiosity mode on* (not directed at ET)
What would possibly happen if I were to put in the 333 chip?

1. Mobo doesnt recognise the chip at all no matter what FSB is set in BIOS.
2. Mobo does recognise the chip but ONLY when FSB is at 133.
3. Mobo recognises the chip no matter what FSB is setto. :-D

*curiosity mode off*

I have been running at 170FSB ever since I obtained the board. So, logically I would have no problem running the 333 chip.

Anybody care to refute my conclusions?

This is the most likely scenario since most likely, the only difference between the two chips is the multiplier.

But unless you where able to run the board at over 170fsb, you would not get much of an overclock with those chips. The work around would be to unlock the chips, but if they are made with the same stepping I don't see too much point in that... Except feeding that curiosity mode.

I know my board reaches 200fsb with conservative memory timings as I have tried that before.

So, I guess I will have to buy new 3200/3500 memory to complement the 2600+ to achieve any level of meaningful oc'ing.

I think I will try flashing the beta BIOS tonight and see what range of multipliers is availible.
