8kha+ and drivers cdrom

The drivers cdrom that comes with the board has the usual via 4in1 driver and a Bus Master PCI IDE 3.x driver. Should I stick with just the via 4in1 or should I also install this new one?

I'm having good luck w/ the 4.35's. I think those are still the newest ones. While I've heard that the improvements in recent updates are all for NT/2K/XP I'm running these on 98SE also w/ no problems.

If you don't have 4.35 or better, get them. The extra IDE driver (3.XX) is for those having problems under XP. If this is you, use it, I don't think there any big issues w/ using if you don't need it either.

To set the answers straight and correct !!!!

One only needs to install the 4-in-1 drivers initially. If IDE devices seem to be problematic in the system it may then be necessary to install the IDE Busmasters in order to alter the ratings of certain ATAPI devices to enable stability or perhaps recording of CD's when certain devices become detected as SCSI devices under an NT orientated O/S - or other problems under ANY O/S

The Extra IDE driver is not remotley linked exclusively to windows XP - please ignore the above from other thread contributor.

4in1

Thanks EP.

Viahardware says that 4in1 435 is 434 with added windows XP functionality. A quick check of file size & dates confirms the non XP files are the same between 434 & 435.

That is correct my friend. It is nice to see people doing their own research in this way.

Good work boys.
