With HighPoint RAID controller its Possible ONLY to conect HDs and NOT other IDE devices......

With promise YES its Possible.........

8K3A+ Uses HighPoint which is better performer than Promise.....

The mfgr of the raid controller chip does not influence the IDE/ATAPI capabilities. Promise or Highpoint.... doesn't matter. To have ATAPI support, ie CDROM/DVDROM capabilites, the card or mobo mfgr needs to add an additional chip that serves as an ATAPI controller. AFAIK, to save costs, mobo makers have stopped providing such a chip. If your mobo was made less than a year ago, it is highly unlikely that you will get ATAPI support in your RAID channels.

This is probably in line with the low cost of RAID mobos today. Now, it is typically only $10 -$20 more than the non-RAID version. A few years ago, there was a $50 price premium.
