SLK-800 & 8RDA+ Setup

Just got a Thermalright SLK-800 which comes with no instructions. I realise its not rocket science but I've got two questions :-

Should the fan be blowing or sucking (I have good case ventilation)

Which way round should it sit on the board, there are two options. The fixing bracket has a space for a screwdriver to apply preasure on one side, should this be at the top or bottom.

Many thanks....

They say it's best to have the fan blow in, air towards the CPU. As for which way it goes on, it goes on only ONE way! On the bottom of the HS, you should see a ledge, match that up with the ledge on the CPU socket.

Ive got a pal 8045 which seems to work better with the air being sucked through. Try both to see which works best.

Yeah, some prefer to be sucked. Just try both and watch the temps

Remember to use those little pads as the ones on your athlon are in the wrong place. If you forget you've just killed your chip! I use an 80mm fan blowing onto my SLK 800 as that worked best.

It is usually better to have the fan blowing down towards the CPU.

Once the air passes through the fins of the CPU heatsink, it flows outward and can cool the north bridge heatsink also.

Unfortunately with the 8RDA, a SLK800's airflow will miss the north bridge heatsink because of how the CPU socket is oriented. (90° off) The exhaust air from the SLK800 will exit left and right, but not down where the NB heatsink is.

I had my SLK800, Round the wrong Way Btw on the 8RDA+, Temps weren't out of the ordinary, but the system was unstable I believe due to the HS being on the wrong way. this was due to me rushing into putting the the HSF On, without thinking about it, and being a n00b
So just make sure you line the ridge up, as mooky stated earlier.

In my earlier post, I was about to say the screwdriver notch faces up, but then the though occured to me that perhaps it's not uniform. It's quite possible that the screwdriver notch faces different directions on different heatsinks. I never had more than a couple to check this out, but because of this possibility, I said to check the ledge.

Thanks for that, I had the fan sucking and this ledge miss orientated. Was quite worried as I was getting upto 2450 out of my XP2400 on my old 8KHA+ & Alpha Pal8045 and I had only managed to hit 2300 with the 8RDA+ & SLK-800.

Hopefully I'll start to see upwards of 2400 when I figure out the best BIOS settings.
