8RDA+ w/ vantec copper iceberg = don't bother

So I got my copper iceberg yesterday and set it up on my 8RDA+

the original epox cooler DOES NOT fit on the southbridge.

The mounting holes line up, but there are some small metal caps that are close to the southbrige that are taller than the southbridge that will cause it to pivot up off of the sb, If you have a dremal and want to grind it a bit, then that would work

So the active NB cooler installed, hoping to get up to 200mhz from around 190-192mhz but allas not even 195mhz.

So after taking the time to remount my mobo, the cost of the heatsinks and almost killing my processor(see epox saved my bacon thread), I got no obvious gains. Possibly it will be more stable in the summer when the room gets hot.

So your miliage may vary, but I got nothing out of it.

Confusion

I can understand the iceberg not performing well... But what thermal compound are you using? Hopefully not the pad the board comes with and not vantec's.

Also you can still place on of those other sinks that come with the icebergs with some adhesive thermal compound.

Thats what I did... Iceberg on NB w/Artic Silver and the small copper HS that came with the Icberg on the SB.
Works Great!! runs stable 10.5x200 and 201 so far.
Still burning in a new CPU.

Did you apply enough of the thermal compound ? The NorthBridge has a center section that is about 1 1/4" diameter and about .002" of an inch lower than the outer edge.
