Will this work with a 8RDA corrupt bios?

Is there life after death? I saw this in a thread over at Sudhian forums about the Nforce2 bios issues.
http://forums.sudhian.com/messagevie...threadid=32537

Referring to this information at wimsbios under BIOS FAQ.

"Modern motherboards have a boot-block BIOS. This is small area of the BIOS that doesn't get overwritten when you flash a BIOS. The boot-block BIOS only has support for the floppy drive. If you have a PCI video card you won't see anything on the screen because the boot-block BIOS only supports an ISA videocard.

Award: The boot-block BIOS will execute an AUTOEXEC.BAT file on a bootable diskette. Copy an Award flasher & the correct BIOS *.bin file on the floppy and execute it automaticly by putting awdflash *.bin in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

AMI: The AMI boot-block BIOS will look for a AMIBOOT.ROM file on a diskette. Copy and rename the correct BIOS file on the floppy and power up the PC. The floppy doesn't need to be bootable. You will see the PC read the floppy, after about 4 minutes you will hear 4 beeps, this means the transfer is done. Reboot the PC and modify the CMOS for your configuration."

my bios was semi-corrupted today

i cleared CMOS and it came back

but before i did that
i had a floppy with awdflash.exe and the newest .bin on it
once it saw the checksum error on the bios chip, it seeks for a floppy

and then opens the awdflash.exe for flashing

so there is afterlife

zerocash

That would be great but we don't have ISA slots
any longer for an ISA Vid card.

Too bad it doesn't work with a PCI card.

remember that awdflash.exe is in the bios itself (it says decompressing right before you enter alt+f2 screen) so it CAN restore a good bios from a floppy, but it depends on how far gone the bios chip is.

From what I have read you don't need the ISA card. Strip the computer down to a floppy and thats it. You just can not see what is going on. "Boot and Pray."

Gotcha on the "Boot and Pray."

K1114 is correct tho. In this case you
have to hope the BIOS isn't scrambled to the point
where all you get is the initial POST screen and
nothing else. No floppy seek etc. You hit DEL and
you get nada. Been there done that.

"Hot-swap" and back in
the 'ol ball game.
