8RGA+ woes

Just bought an 8RGA+ for a client, and I think its buggered. The USB on the board is broken; windows doesn't recognize any devices that get plugged into the ports, they just get listed as unknown devices under usb devices. No exclamation marks, no nothing :| Also, I don't think my PCI devices got detected. Oh, and theres no temp reading from the CPU... lol, why am I even bothering to post

Anyone any ideas?

Fresh WinXP install with SP1 already integrated onto it.
Nforce 2.03 drivers.
AXP 2400+, 512Mb Crucial PC2100 RAM, nothing overlclocked, voltages etc at defaults. Using onboard everything else!

Thanks, Skell

No they are molex connecters.
I think the PSU is dodgey, but everything works fine now. Been priming it for a couple of hours to make sure. If theres anymore bother, I'll change the generic PSU in it

Thanks for your help guys, if you have any more ideas what might be the problem, feel free to continue this thread. Im interested if it could be anything else!

Skell - for WinME there're USB drivers supplied with the MB. Not sure whether new drivers for USB have to be installed under XP, however.

In general, 99% of problems like this are software related and not hardware faults.

i saw a post where someone was having problems with XP installed with sp1 already integrated.

they did a clean XP install with an older XP cd & then installed SP1 on top of that. voila! no issues.

though it does sound PSU related with your fix.

danrok - I think the USB 2 drivers already come with SP1 for XP. I tried reinstalling XP twice before I started to unplug things

drewski - I did think of trying that, but in the end I got really lazy lol

Thanks guys, I like the ideas you have!

You're right, the USB drivers are present in XP SP1.

You mentioned that the BIOS wasn't reporting CPU core temp. Does the CPU you have installed support this?
