TDK CDRW not being detected at POST

Can someone please help me with the problem in this thread?
It's driving me nuts. Has anyone had similar issues?

Make sure the TDK has the newest firmware too (even though it's new). I thought I saw a solution to this somewhere that had to do with cutting one wire on the IDE cable. (?)

It's not new...it's about 15 months old. I saw the "fix" that suggests cutting the cable, but I believe that fix pertains to Western Digital hard drives. I'll see if I can find a firmware update.

Yeah...I could, because the drive is currently residing in my other computer until I figure this out, but the only firmware upgrade is geared specifically for people whose CD tray is exhibiting strange behavior and mine is not; so....

Upgraded the firmware and re-installed the drive....still no joy.

Bummer

From what I remember from reading the other thread you've already tried different cables....hmm

Does the mobo recognize the drive at POST at all? Ever?

Just for the fun of it, try BIOS ver 3305. Go into setup and select optimum defaults and then try to do an auto-detect on the drive.
Also, try changing UDMA from auto to disabled in the BIOS.

There seems to be some history of trouble with TDK drives judging from a quick search on Google:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=TD...eja.com&rnum=5

If you have a spare PCI IDE controller laying around that might work. Not the best solution though.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that you might want to watch for deals on new burners. I got a brand new Lite-On 32X CDRW not long ago for $15 after rebate. Might be the cheapest solution.

I think I'll cut bait and live with what I have for now. The drive works in my other machine and I'm using an 8X LG drive in this one for now, so that will suffice until I upgrade to a DVD burner. Maybe Father's Day. Thanks for trying to help me find a solution.
