ET, Bios update to support MP2800+ for EP-8KHA+?

ET, I was wondering if you could do a bios update to support the newly released Barton core MP2800+ procs on the KHA+ mobo? The MP2800+ now gives us older mobo owners a 266 fsb Barton core proc to ugrade to and use and it might be a worthwhile upgrade for some folks. Seeing that the biggest difference between Barton and Tbred is the inclusion of 512k L2 cache instead of 256k L2, I'm guessing that this would be an easy update for you to perform on the bios. It would also open up overclocking opportunities for people to buy an XP2500, which is now selling for less than $100 at Newegg and let us hard code a higher multiplier on it and utilize the proc on our KHA+ mobo's too.

Thanks in advance for reading this thread.

I wouldn't be suprised if Tbred/Barton cores work fine on the 8KHA+ albeit at 333fsb or less. I have a Palomino running 1.7Ghz@333FSB in mine and it is very stable. All ET would update in the BIOS is the microcode which is for display purposes - name, GHz, etc. When I get my 8KHA+ rig from my friends place I'll toss my Tbred in it.

If you don't do a fresh install of windows after your CPU upgrade, don't forget to change the secondary cache entry in the registry to '512'

A microcode update is what I'm asking for ET to do for the Barton procs. My KHA+ has run an XP2400 in it shortly after ET had posted the bios update late last year here to enable the KHA+ to run Tbred B procs. As a matter of fact, I saw over at Anandtech that there is a new bios revision just released this month for the KHA+ to fix some kind of problem with XP2600+ procs running on this board, but no mention of any update for Barton operation though. I presently am running a Tbred 1700 A in my KHA+ and want to upgrade to better & faster and the Barton 2500's are now $96 at Newegg. Us folding junkies are always trying to maximize our folding speed with what we have, you know. I already know how to change the hard coding of the multipliers on the proc so that I don't have to run the PCI bus too far out of spec to get a decent overclock out of the proc.

KT266a doesn't support Barton core, moreover it is not prudent to build MP support for desktop BIOS.

So there you have it! ET is always watching over us crazy modders.

I saw the price drop on those Barton 2500+ CPUs and I have to say I see one in my future.

ET, 8KHA+ BIOS is reporting the FSB properly at 333 now. Ya fixed my problem...thx!
