8RDA3+ vcore over 1.725V = crash, freeze, wont boot

What gives? It either wont boot or crashes at BIOS. I thought giving more vcore make it more stabile.

8RDA3+ BIOS 26/5/03
XP1800+ at 2800+ 1.65V
512mb Corsair PC 3200
WinXP SP1
GF4 Ti 4200 @ 300/650

You must have one of the DLT3C stepping CPUs.

These are less tolerent to high voltages and even become unstable in the BIOS environment.

I've corrupted my 8RDA+ BIOS by setting the voltages too high whilst at the same time saving the FSB, needless to say the whole thing fell over.

From that day on I learned to save all FSB settings on a Vcore I know to be stable and then up the Vcore afterwards.

Not worth the risk IMO unless it can be verified to work on the 3+, besides I don't think it will help much unless his CPU will take it since this is a fix for the board....as my previous post these 1.5v default CPU seem less tolerant to voltage so being able pump more in is'nt exactly going to help when it's already unstable at 1.725v?

ok that could be his case... but what about mine? i know that my cpu can handle more vcore. i used to run it at 1.95 on a abit kd7 without problems... and now i can't pass 1.75.

btw i have a tbred-b 2100+

Pretty much do nothing until someone comes up with a OVP mod for the 8RDA3+, who knows the 8RDA+ mod may also work for the 3+ you brave enough to give it a try ?

It's not necessarily the board. I have 4 1700+ cpus, all 0310. Testing on my main rig, I've noticed that all the CPUs behave differently. One can do 2.4ghz@1.85v, another max's out at 2.3ghz@1.9v, another can't do anything with more than 1.75v, but does 2.25ghz at that voltage, and the last one max's out at 2.3ghz@1.85v. I've confirmed this as well on multiple motherboards.

As someone said, luck of the draw, even with identical steppings, performance will vary.
