8KRA2+ and HPT372(N)

Exist versions of the 8KRA2+ with HPT372 and others with HPT372N?

HPT372 of the 8KRA2+ supports RAID 1.5 (0+1 with two HDs)?

HPT372N of the 8KRA2+ supports RAID 1.5?

What are you actually asking ?
Does the HPT372(N) support the silly name RAID1.5 (which is not 0+1 btw) but RAID-1 which happens to be able to read of both drives (similar to a stripe) giving increase Sustained Read's ?

And your asking if the N and none N versions support it ?

Well my rev1.1 board has the HPT372 on it.

Goto Highpoint website look at IC's to find what they support.

Thank you.

I sent email for Highpoint and they had not answered me. The homepage does not say nothing on the HPT372N.

It would like to know if the HPT372 (without n) of the 8KRA2+ supports RAID 1.5.

As Highpoint is only an IDE controller with RAID by software, the RAID is by the Highpoint BIOS and driver, and therefore 8KRA2+ is for 1.5.

Thank you very much!

Some sites of the Epox say that the 8KRA2+ has the HPT372 with RAID 0, 1 and 0+1.

Other sites say that the 8KRA2+ has the HPT372N with RAID 0, 1 ,0+1 e 1.5.

I want RAID 1.5

It had fear to buy the 8KRA2+ with HPT372 (without n) and not to be able to make RAID 1.5, but now I know that it is capable.

Ya, all of the RAID functionality of the Highpoint controllers is done in software. The hardware itself is little more than a couple of enhanced IDE ports.

However, RAID 1.5 is definately not equivalent to RAID 0+1!

Same with the VIA SATA RAID on that board.

Unhappyly the HPT372 does not support RAID 1.5

The reply of the HighPoint:

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thanks for your contacting us!
HPT372 driver/BIOS doesn't support RAID1.5.

Regards,
HighPoint Technologies Inc.

Please include all emails in all correspondence so that there is a complete record

HPT372 includes RAID 0, 1 and 0/1 support.

HPT372N includes RAID 0, 1 , 0/1 and 1.5 support.

Can the HTP372 support RAID 1.5?

Thank you.

For what application do you actually require the functionality of RAD 1.5 - would a hardware RAID 5 solution be more suitable if this is for critical data ?

What got me is why EPOX ddidn't put the N version on the board as it is a new board, I actually assumed it would be until I looked at the thing.

I would like to have the performance (access time) shown in following review:

http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage...aid_15-06.html

Access time of 11.1 for 9.5! Almost 15% to less!

First THG are not the best reviews in the world, there more a guide
You should have a look around for more information www.storagereview.com is a good place (you'll probably see me there )

If your really bothered about access time then you need to go SCSI 10K/15K or the new 74GB 10K Raptors (not the 36GB one though).

Get a SCSI card and 4 SCSI drives at 15K - you'll get real performance and security then.
