Newbie Help! 8KHA+

Hi All,

I have an 8KHA+ mobo(Rev. 2.0) and an Athlon 1600-XP. I have purchased a WD 80GB HDD (8MB cache) and am looking for RAM. The manual I downloaded from EPOX says this board will support PC1600/PC2100. Will it support PC2700 and if I try to OC will PC2700 be better.
I've tried researching this question on several forums but seem to get more confused with every thread. I read one article that says PC2700 is fine. Then I read another that says AMD doesn't like asynchronous RAM. Then some recommends PC3200. Then someone says ONLY Kingston PC2100.
One guy said "Yes PC2700 would be async. but you can run it sync." HUH???
I was VERY, VERY happy to stumble across a forum that had an EPOX mobo section. I just know you guys can give me the "skinny" on this issue.
Thanks,
CoachB

Yes, you can use PC3200 if you want, memory is backward compatible, if you run in sync, then FSB and memory run at same speed, if you run async, then you set the FSB to run at one speed and the memory to run at a different speed ( not recommended for everyday use, performance loss, but valuable for testing purposes )

Golfer, Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately, this is where my blind spot kicks in. I see in your sig that you have an Athlon 1700+ running 10 x 225 with PC3200 RAM. That means you are runninf async??? FSB = 225 Ram=333???
What am I missing???

BTW, I've been known to spoil a good walk!
