problem with XP cpu and XP OS

Have a revision 1.0, 8K7A running latest bios. Tried to install a new 1700+ cpu and XP OS would not boot. Finally got it to run by reverting back to the 1711 bios, but it doesn't show the cpu as an XP, running proper speed, but shows as an Athlon 4. Good power supply and bios set to defaults. Have read of others having some problems with this. Any new info on this?

thanks,
sethpa

give it time, running as an "athlon 4" should not be a problem though, as thats what AMD where planning to call it, as an "anti intel" measure.

im sure epox tech will answer this question as best he can when he has time, remember he is here more or less on his own time as i understand it!

apreciate the response RN, and I know the guy is busy. It runs fine, just no SSE support with the 1711 bios and it won't OC worth a damm using that bios. I'm just wondering about trying another bios, but would rather not press my luck till I get more info.

thanks again,
sethpa

i THINK WCPUID should let you enable SSE support..... should be able to find it on AOA files. Run it and hit "Tweaks" "Athlon MP/4 SSE control" "SSE Detection Enable"

not 100% sure it works, but worth a try and WCPUID is very useful program to have anyway!

Hmmmmmmm
Try to flash your bios to the beta one at the aoa files!
Im using it with out any problems, and it allows you to overclock slightly higher than the latest official one at the epox site.
here ya go: http://www.aoafiles.com/dafiles/driv...S/8k7a1b25.zip

no luck with the beta bios, Bongo. XP won't finish booting up, so back to the 1711 bios. Thanks for the idea though. I've tried them all now, I think Guess I'll try the WCPUID trick.

thanks again,
sethpa
