A Question for EPox Tech

My 4SDA+ and Kingmax PC2700 arrived today. I'm getting the northwood tomorrow, but I am somewhat confused about one thing-well, maybe two things. My current system is a Thunderbird 1000@1600 on a 8K7a. I, of course, used the 133 setting on the CPU Clock Select. I will be overclocking, so what setting do I use on the 4SDA+ [100 or 133] and how will this affect the ratios setting in the bios? Also how do I use the ratios for overclocking? I plan to run in the 2.4 - 2.6 range on a 2 or 2.2 gig P4.

Thanks,

I think that will depend on your memory and your timings.

Id definately try it in 133 mode and as your not increasing the bus speed massively your ram should run at the overclocked speed.

to get 2.6 from a 2ghz chip your fsb will be 130mhz and your memory in 133 mode will be at 172mhz.

Your kingmax will hopefully be able to run that speed with some extra voltage.

You might have to play with memory timings to get it stable.

Good luck and tell us how you get on.

Good choice with the mainbord.

But why do you want a 2.0 or 2.2 CPU ?

For the extra money I would buy a damn good PSU and HSF.

With a 1.8 Northwood and 133fsb you have a rock solid 2.4 "woody".

You could easily get 2.6 by: fsb:144 x 18 = 2600

ram: (1:1 devider) 144 Mhz (288 DDR) or

3:4 (4/3=1.33) => 144 Mhz x 1.33 = 192 Mhz (384 DDR)

The Kingmax 2700 has 5 ns chips and they are rated for 200 Mhz
(400 DDR).
1000 / 5 ns x 2(for DDR) = 400 DDR

Although they are cl 2.5, with up to 3.2 VDimm adjustable on your Epox 4SDA+, it should be possible to run them at the speed with 2-2-2. :-D

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the prompt replys. I am inclined to use 133 as, I assume, I would get better dividers for PCI & AGP. I already have a good HSF and PSU in an alumium case I bought a couple of months ago. I'm somewhat open on the speed of the P4. I thought I would check the steppings on the various chips at my distributor and pick the best whatever the speed.

Thanks again.
