MF570sli OC Limit

i posted another thread here () and i had no repsonses so i'm going to post it here again...

i just bought a epox mf570sli board, i am pretty impressed with the board apart from one issue which for all intensive purposes looks intentional...

the board will not boot past 280mhz htt!! i've booted at 270 and pushed the htt to 320 in windows with clockgen and its prime stable!!! someone explain to me why it wont boot at that speed setting, could there be something in the bios preventing it? maybe a software limitation on the 570sli chipset to make overclockers buy the 590sli?

i'm at my wits end, i dont want to use clockgen at startup to oc the board... any ideas on the cause? all voltages are at default, cpu multiplier is at 5x, ram speed is at 1:1, ldt is at 3x...

Well I havnt been able to get my board up to 320 yet, the max I've been able to get is 311. But to get there I have to take it up 1 mhz at a time starting from 290, which is the highest I can boot initially, then i steup up 5 mhz to 295, and then from there on out I have to raise it in 1mhz at a time then reboot eachtime until I get to 311. Just a little quirk I guess, hopefully a bios update will fix it one of these days, but you might give it a shot.

MAL and RP would be a start. Dropping HTT multi should help as well. Wonder if the Dimm Offset is proper as well...

ldt is at 3x, memory is at 1:1 (its ddr667 rated memory) so running at 295 should be fine seeing as its below spec. the machine will not post a anything higher...

RR, did you see the thread I started about this very issue?
MF570SLI o/c locked?

...and it was also discussed here: Where's the EP-MF570 SLI?

Anandtech noticed this HTT "ceiling" in their recent review of two 570SLI mobos - your EPoX and the MSI unit. They couldn't get over 318 & 315 on those boards. (Though some here on AOA have snickered at Anand for stating this, and at me for asserting that the ceiling is built-in to the chip), judging from your results thus far it seems that it may be true.

IMHO, it is Nvidia's doing, not the mobo mfg's. They want to sell the higher-zoot 590 chipset to us enthusiasts = more profit$.

yeh but those speed 318 is alot higher than my ceiling of 285...

also the bios is pretty unstable, changing the settings doesnt seem to keep the setting and it keeps booting at the failsafe default or it just randomly clears the cmos, its really frustrating... also my chipset is at around 55 degrees according to that stupid thermal probe thing epox included, honestly that is the dumbest idea ever!

anyhow, i'm convinced it is a bios issue and i'm checking the epox page every day for a new bios update that hopefully will fix these issues... I have tested the board up to 319 in windows using prime and clokgen and it is rock stable!!! primed for over 15 hours!

Yeah, being a new product for EPoX, it's almost gotta have some BIOS issues. Nothing new there for EPoX or any other board maker. They'll get 'em worked out.

But even after the BIOS gets worked out, I don't see a big problem even if the 570's can't be maxxed out on HTT, because 310-320 is a very good o/c on this platform. It's just that for those who want to push a CPU/RAM to its ultimate limits, the 570 chipset might not be the best way to go, and the limits of this chipset should be made known.

Good luck on getting 'er stablized. Patience!
