years ago

16***17 yrs ago, a curios nerd got his hands on an Epox MB with no clue as what to do with it. How(why) I had this board-I haven't a clue. AOA was the only board I could find that paid any attention to Epox. Wa-La, a marriage was born.
Does any one remember there first?

I recall that Daniel ~ was an Epox fan. But I was a bit annoyed as I heard him talking to another Epox fan. He commented that "that's all you have to do" to fix some quirks of a mainboard from Epox.

My point is that who the hell knows these fixes who isn't tapping in to some arcane knowledge pool online that doesn't exist, at least for a regular person who bought an Epox board.

I bought one and sent it back because I didn't have a clue as to what arcane steps were needed to address the problem(s). Not to mention that my Epox board didn't have any of the glitches that the folks leaning over the cauldron of "hubble, bubble toil and trouble" talked about when I went to the AOA party that Daniel ~ very kindly hosted.

That was a great party, we owe a debt of gratitude to Dan for hosting that party.

We even had the head of Epox marketing in the UK here on AOA for quite a while. He was an impressive as well as very nice Member to have.

A big congratulations to you for figuring out how that Epox mobo ticked! Amazing, really.

I don't remember what probs I had but must have had some or I wouldn't have needed AOA. In case you don't know I am completely self tought in the workings of computers. In other words I'm quite inadequate in overall knowledge. What I do know comes from a problem I learned how to fix.
What one man can make-another man can fix.
My Dad & step-dad both passed on this to us kids.

Your dad's taught you a valuable attitude about fixing things. Good on them.

AOA helped many people with computer problems, that was really it's best feature. It was fascinating reading about the myriad hassles folks had with their machines. I learned a lot from this site. It's most unfortunate that overclocking isn't needed by most people any longer but it's good that CPU's improved so much .

Daniel ~ still overclocks, using liquid cooling. The performance he gets with his main squeeze machine is near unbelievable. A fast i7 run at full tilt boogy is something to see!

I had a neighbor who really helped me learn how PC's ticked. I've forgotten much more than I remember about computers and computering. Seems you have to work with them every day to retain the vast knowledge required. Duuh, if it works don't mess with it. That's my motto. And PC's DO work better than they used to. At least if you're a bit lucky.

Except for those basic, serious security flaws that Intel built in to their procs over the last ten years. Thank you Intel! Unfortunately many more CPU's from many manufacturers, even more than a few AMD's have the same problem.

But that's just fine! Congress just voted to continue un-Constitutional snooping into every one's Net traffic. Including many Democrats, and they wonder why they lost in 2016? We have Massa Bush the Younger to thank for all of those nasty laws against the little guy after 9/11. Plus Obama, he liked a constant proctology exam for everyone as well. The latest ill willed dude in the Honky House says he's against many things that are glaringly wrong about gummint today--but likes them in reality.

Arggh, I do go on.
