gona get an 8kha+, but a few questions first...

ive finaly dicided to replace my origonal kt7-raid, but i got a few questions first...

1. is it true you cant change the multiplyer on the athy xp even after its unlocked?
2. can you set the pci/agp dividors? if so whats the max setting?
3. is there enough room to mount my old fop32-1 on the north bridge? (must....have....175.....fsb! lol)
4. anyone know of a way to hold dryice on the cpu? (i always get some for haloween )

Now there are questions and there are questions ...........

Athlon XP's multiplier when unlocked correctly can be changed to anything. There seem to be a lot of people not doing the job correctly - they all seem to be shorting the copper mesh out.

The PCI divisors can not be manually set. For information on PCI speeds at various FSB's, the 94228 PLL data sheet is easily gained.

There is not enough room for overkill on the northbridge !

As for holding dry-ice on the CPU - holding it with an aluminium chute is often the best method.

3. You might have to take a few chunks out of the FOP with a dremel to make room for a couple capacitors, but it's do-able. I've been eyeing an old cooler master I have kicking around with the same thoughts. However, I'm not sure how much the extra cooling will help. How 'bout it EPoX Tech, tried anything like this yet?

4. Get a 3/16" thick copper plate, drill four holes in it to mount it to the board, and solder a piece of 2" diameter copper pipe on to the plate. This will make you a little "cup" to put the dry-ice and some alcohol in(the board would need to be on a horizontal plain). Be sure you put alcohol in with the dry-ice and not water. If you use water, the dry-ice will ice over with wet-ice and not cool the water as well. If you don't have any alcohol handy, automotive windshield washer fluid works great too.

I think I read somewere about an EPoX board coming soon with KT266a and onboard high-point raid. But I might be mistaken.

Yeah, will there be a RAID version of the 8kha+?

KR7? Who is going to manufacture that? If it's Abit, I've long since given up on them. Some of there boards are quality parts, and some arn't worth the paper there manuals are printed on. Most of there recent boards fall under the later catagory. ASUS has really went down the drain as well IMHO. It doesn't help Abit and ASUS to charge as much as they do. I think EPoX and maybe Soltek are the only decent companies around these days. Soyo has been pretty good to a lot of people too, but there parts are getting harder and harder to aquire, but so are Soltek parts. After expiriencing this EP-8KHA+, consider me a green to the bone EPoX fan!

It will be similar from what I read. I imagine they will have to move some stuff around, to make room for the highpoint controller. It's hard to say exactly what they will do without having intimate knowledge of the inner layers of the PCB. But judging from EPoX's ingenious 3-phase power supply layout, I have faith that they can do it without too much trouble.

I have an 8kta2 in my main box right now, great board. Very stable. Only fault is with FSB adjustment, the KT133 chipset just can't do more than 108Mhz.

Aw, sure it can. With more VIO and better northbridge cooling you should be able to get to 112MHz. I've seen it done many many times.

Problem 1: Not my computer means I can't break it. I'm afraid to screw with ANY voltages.

Problem 2: Don't have money for active cooling of northbridge, saving for 8kha+ and 1500+

I repaired a MVP3C2 yesterday that an end user has screwdrivered. It took me back to the golden days looking at an AT board again .......................

Yes - 8KHA2. It will be based on KT266A with 4 DDR DIMM slots and onboard HPT372 ATA 133 controller.

This will probably be our most sought after mainboard ever made to date.

That is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

4 memory slots is simply extraordinary and ATA 133 simply sweetens the pot.

Will it have support for the on-die thermostat? Will it support DDR333?

When will it be availiable (approx.) and will it cost the usual cost for an Epox board? ($110-$140 street)

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really interested!

It will be based on KT266A as I stated, which is a PC2100 chipset running a 266MHz FSB.
