8KHA+ & C1 code

Hey peeps. I got a freind with this board. What happens is when he boots(using one of three diff 256 sticks of PC2100) post stops at C1 error code. Now, when using a single stick of mem he can hit F1 and continue normally. However, if more than a single stick.....it's reboot time. As stated, this happens with 1 generic and/or 2 Crucial PC2100. Needless to say, this is driving him to distraction. Any ideas ?

C1 is the code displayed when detecting memory size, type, and ECC/non-ECC . . .

Not really sure, sounds to me like a memory compatability issue. I'm sure, our resident EPoX Tech will be have a much better idea about what is going on. All I could do is guess, which probably won't help your friend too much . . . .

Yeah. I've done all the guessing that I can manage. Of course the simplest first...re-seat the ram, try different ram, try different dimm slots, make sure not ecc ram................................

Funny thing is when I first mentioned re-seating and diff ram, he put in the generic stick and it worked fine....until the next time he booted. Then it stalled at C1 again

Does this also happen after clearing the CMOS and retarding the timings for the memory ?

It could be that the memory timings are such that the memory cannot pass the C1 stage of the Award POST process.

Try increasing the VDimm rating a little.

Another cause is that VDimm is unstable due to poor power regulation caused by a poor PSU.
