ET, Thornton bios update for 8KHA+ please.

Since it seems like AMD has quit producing the Tbred procs and are now making the Thornton XP2400 procs instead (castrated barton with half the cache disabled), how about a bios update to include the Thornton microcode in the bios so the board properly recognizes it please? :) Thanks in advance for reading this thread. :)

Bump back up for ET or Holst to see and comment on.:)

Looking around for some ops atm; I don't think that Holst will respond this thread.

It seems to work, E.T. :D I have tried both a Barton that's been remapped to a 16 multi and a Thorton and it comes up as an "Athlon at xxxx". Thank you very much for the updated bin; it's newer than the one on Epox usa's site.

It's support like this that makes me like Epox... :)

Hi!

...you could allways set a higer multiplier and get the stock speed, although this board cant program 5th bit of the multiplier, if your procesos multiplier is over 13x you will have the 5th bit at 1 so if you try a low multiplier you will get 8x+:
7x---15x
8x---16x
9x---17x
10x----remaped i think it is 23x
i am currently using a 2100+(13xmultiplier) at 2400mhz 160*15x(7x), so it works.
and you shouldnt wory about the opn, the most importatn thing is the stepping and as far as i know all tbred b stepping work well in this board.
Will this multiplier remaping work with Thorton cpus?

Hiya Yogsi,

It is unfortunatly true that the board cannot process 5 bit FID's, only 4 bit ones - remembering that when it's ancestoral perch the 8KHA came out, the fastest Athlon was a 1200 !

It's a shame I know, but things move onwards and upwards!

What we need to focus on I think is the fact that this board regardless of FID mapping in BIOS has given great service for CPU upgrading to many many users around the world - accepting more 266FSB chips than anyone could possibly ever need.

Thorton 2400+ works just great on 8kha+. With the latest two bios no problems. I've been able run my thorton at 16x (8x setting). Lower multiplier setting than 15x doesn't seem to work. 17x seems to be a bit too much but 15*140 (=2250) @ 1.65V is totally stable.

Anyone modified their Thorton's back into Barton's like me ?

Jeff F. 30th November, 2003 11:39 PM

Can't do that to the new chips. AMD has figured out a way to make the top plain of the chip basically inactive. (no more changing the multiplier, Vcore, or cache) :(

On top of that, painting the pins also doesn't seem to work. :(

AMD has really done a good job this time. :D

Just changed the multiplier on my XP1800 to 13, now running @ 13 x 169MHz. Never thought that this board would see 2.2GHz, thanks Epox :)
