C&C generals

I just bought this game, but I'm sad to see the video performance from my computer.

It will only run semi well on the lowest resolution setting (800*600) and with almost all effects turned off. My friend who has a P4 2000 with a Ti4200 runs smootly in much higher resolutions.

Even the intro with movies in low res won't run too well, they tend to freeze for a quarter of a second sometimes. All cutscenes are like that. They don't run smooth at all.

Whats up with that? Can it really be true that my system isnt fast enough, or is it my Video card that won't do? They recommend a Gf3, and thats exactly what I have.

256 MB PC2700 (would more RAM do the trick?)
GF3-ti200 64MB OC'ed to GF3 speeds and above.

I'm running detonator drivers 41.09, recent VIA 4-in-1 and I've tried both DX8.1 and DX9.

Just having a fleeting visit, just for you Allan

I'm running Generals atm, with my compie specs in my sig. Details are all pretty high, and the res is at its maximum: 1280x960.

Running the 41.09 dets and currently having no probs whatsoever

Just a quick look at your specs myself shows me that you should be more than capable of running it! Maybe it doesn't like your Geforce3?

I wouldn't recommend running Dx9, pantsed up my computer.

Errrm, what else? Try using the older drivers for your mobo?

You downloaded the new patch for the game? That might sort it out.

Other than that, reinstall Windows!

Thanks Bytewipe. It could be the GF3, but its not that bad a card. I've tried the patch, it didn't help.

Reinstalling windows isn't an option atm. Everything else runs perfectly fine, so I'm not gonna reinstall just for the sake of C&C, I think.

I may try reinstalling the game though, dunno if that does anything but its worth a shot.

Oh, btw, DX9 runs fine in my end.

It's a fairly demanding game, my mate has a 1Ghz Athlon system with a Ti200, can only run the game in lower resolutions (nothing above 800x600). I don't think the CPU makes much difference to game speed, it's 90% gfx or something.

It doesn't even run flawlessly on my XP1600+ Ti4200 system @1024x768, sticks occasionally. One thing I have noticed though, it's sticks really bad on some of the movies (the ones when you complete the campaings). It seems like there's still a bit of tweaking to be done with the game, hope it's fixed with the next patch (they've already released one!).

Exactly, it does the same thing here in my end. Both sound and movie stands still for a split second before moving on... this happends every 4-5 seconds throughout the movie.

At least now I know its not only my system thatsthe culprit, lol
