Everquest 2

Just a quick question, is it possible to play this game offline? I like the look of it, but online play doesn't really interest me so I'm quite reluctant to subscribe to it.
Thanks

In a word, no.

EverQuest II, like EverQuest is only online. Interaction with other players is such a core part of the game there is no offline mode. All of the world status, and large chunks of content are stored server side rather than on the client.

Crap, oh well thanks for the reply. Seems like they're biting their own hands off, surely it would appeal to more with offline and online modes?

They have an offline EQ if I remember right...it's only console, however. (PS2)

If you want a game that emulates the online experience, I would suggest the .hack series of games. I played it and really enjoyed the first one. The sequels are hideously repetetive, however.

The way that the whole game is designed is to really require multiplayer interaction to get very far. I know from experience that to have a really good session requires a group of mixed classes where people know what their roles are. If you have players who aren't pulling their weight, it can be quite difficult at points!

IMHO, there's no way that SOE could translate that to an offline mode of play without seriously compromising the game. Whilst I recognise that the subscription can be offputting, I also see that SOE put a lot of work into constantly updating the game and it's content as well as organising special events within the game.
