PS-3 Pricing Officially Announced It's official: The PS-3 is going to be the most expensive game console in history. CNet News is reporting that the PS-3 will have a retail price of $499 with a 20 GB drive, and $599 with a 60 GB drive. It will also include built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and USB interface capability. It will support up to 7 wireless controllers. It will feature high definition video up to 1080p, as well as supporting Sony Memory Sticks, Secure Digital, and Compact Flash memory technologies, and the ability to play CDs, DVDs, and Blue-Ray media. Oh, and it will play all previous PS-1 and PS-2 games. All in all, Sony thinks that this unit will have so much to offer you that you won't balk at the high price-tag (the base PS-3 will cost nearly twice what Microsoft's XBox-360 costs), and they have reiterated their commitment to have plenty of units available in November. So, what about it? Do you still plan on buying one, even at the $500 or $600 price point? Or is somebody at Sony doing some serious drugs? Tell us! |

Mine is already on pre-order, and at that price I have absolutely no problems with it. I can't believe all these people complaining about that price everywhere. Its cheap! When the original Playstation came out, I bought one from the very first shipment for a price of $860 Australian. That was in 1995. As a comparison, back then $860AU would have been about $650US. All that for a glorified CD player. $860 was the going price for a good second hand Datsun back then. They didn't get below $600 for almost 2 years (until the Nintendo 64 launch in 1997). Until then it was gaming royalty.

It just looks so lovely sitting there on the self, I'd hate to disturb it's sweet repose... Or.... $600.00 are you freaking kidding me? But as always, to each their own...":O}

But! Lets think about this $600. How much ATI Crossfire X1900XT does that get you? How much Nvidia 7900GTX SLI do you get? When you compare all you get from a PS3 to all you get from a top end video card, there is no contest. Blu-ray, HDMI, 60GB hard disk, 802.11G, DVD, interfaces with PSP. Its a complete package for the price of a decent video card.

All well and true, but my friend, I'm leaving the 7900GTX SLI for my betters as well ":O} This may be a matter of my own personal sticker shock than a comment on the value received or fair pricing.

I think I squeezed out $300 for it. But that well is dry. I'm still have conscience pangs about spending $30.00 for head phones yesterday, not enough to cancel the order mind you!! ":O}

I'm pre-ordering mine ASAP. The price doesn't bother me. I remember people selling their just bought PS2s for £1500 in the Friday Ad. My friend bought the 50th PS2 to be sold, and got a certificate. He sold it for £3000. He then used the £3000 to buy more PS2s. I think he made a total profit of £10,000 and aged 15 was voted Sussex Businessman of the year by the Argus newspaper.

Why not just wait? I think the price is fair for everything you get with the package. If I had the money to spare, I'd get one, but I'm sure one of my friends will be purchasing one. So I just let him fork out the heavy dough and leech off his system :P You'll find me buying a PS3 probably about a year after they come out. Price should have gone down atleast 20-30% by then, right? Quick question, will the 499 version w/o HDMI have DVI atleast? If not, how will it output 1080p? |

No, it was his fault that he was stupid enough to take advantage of them.

Its the lowest of the low really. Ticket scalping, console scalping, oil scalping (no better name for it) all saddens me greatly. When launching the PSP, Sony auctioned off a few units extra before the launch for about US$3000 each, but at least they did that to raise money for charity. But there are people that would see a man drowning and charge him his life savings for a rope.

Don't forget the basic model doesn't include wifi, card reader or hdmi output. So if you want a psp to interconnect with PS3 (is there anything Sony haven't completely ripped off Nintendo with?) you'll need to get the stupidly expensive model. For a PS2.5 with subpar graphics i think i'll pass. Based on the tech demos i've seen so far at E3 it looks utter trash, i'd rather have a Wii. Plus it looks like a bleeding sandwich toaster and comes with a pad which is nearly 10 year old.... Oh yeah and no rumble either because Sony lost the lawsuit. |

o o o i spell a fanboy in the air but anyhoo, i known for ages it will cost this much (who ya know) i dont play games enough anymore to buy one but i dont think it will stop that manny hardcore gamers, i got my ps2 on launch day in the uk for £350, and was well happy only problem is the hi deff, if you dont have it, its pointless, having extensivly played the ps2 xbox and 360 on a normal tv, and 360 on a hi deff tv, its pointless on a normal one, it just looked like a slightly better xbox, and i susspect the same will be rue of the ps3
