Interesting. Sony uses ServiceNet, although Sony don't appear to have any kind of extended warranty beyond 3 years for the PS3. I wonder if this means that the extended warranty you have is through NewEgg, rather than Sony themselves?

New egg is listed as "The Dealer" on the contract that "Service Net" sends after the purchase. New egg only offer a two year warrenty now and it now states a replacement rather than repair.... Sony seems to be just dumping any flawed or broken PS3 and replacing them wholesale...from what little I could learn...? 5 year contracts are NO MORE!

My Frustration begins to mount!

As the reader knows I've been waiting for Newegg to resolve this issue. While waiting I've been using the inferior model they sent me...Yesturdat the sound went out for BlueRay and DVD disks!

PS3 system sounds are fine, sound is fine though out my entire Home theatre system. ONLY game and movie sound is out! It's the Blueray player...AGAIN!!

As I'm still trying to get them to send a "reasonably" = (the best deal I can get from them as the totally screw me) similar model to the one I bought....

I not sure what to do....New egg was supposed to E-mail me by yesterday with their take on the situation.... I'll be calling them again later today....

So now I have TWO PERFECTLY GOOD PS3's that need new Blueray drives or need a bit of solder...who knows!? Sony doesn't even want to see the dead and wounded to make that determination.

The short route would be to simply have Sony do a manufacturers one year warranty exchange... But then I get screwed on the drive size (all they have to offer me in exchange for: Non PS2 compatibility, two missing USB connects, PRO, Memory card and what nots that are missing on the now also dead replacement... what a mess!! Comments?

Seems like a strange fault.

I'd go over all the settings relating to sound. Some are to be found under video settings, not just sound settings.

I would have thought that if a Blu-ray movie plays, just without sound, that the drive is working fine, and the problem lies elsewhere.

After blowing off some steam here I re contacted Newegg, great as ever! They asked me for another 48 hours and said that if they couldn't get the Service plan people to do right then she would go elsewhere within new egg and get this fixed for me... sounds encouraging!

Dan, I finished playing my game, put in a movie for Patti, we watched the movie and turned things off. Next day I go to play games, no sound, I try the Movie again, no sound. All system sounds work in the PS3...If you have a setting you'd like me to try I'd be glad to. I even retried my original PS3, still no BlueRay there....I've really looked and thought about what this could be... I think it HAS to be the blueray if it had sound, then lost it with no system changes? This is just how the first one went. Played games, watched movies...then for no known reason it would not register at all with the system when a disk is put in.
