Sigh...after WEEKS talking to New egg, Waiting for Neww egg to answer, they punked out! They admitted it was a raw deal, but refused to correct or make Net services correct it. So I'm stuck shipping and warranting the cheap ass replacement whose sound went out in under three weeks...

Just FINALLY heard from new egg, so Friday we started the Warranty RMA through Sony on the replacement box....

We've found a place the will repair my original PS3 out of warranty for $150.00 minus taxes and shipping... can't really afford that right now...

Just been playing Killzone 2, and looks like this might be the best FPS on PS3 so far...

Sony billed 2008 as the Year of the PlayStation 3, but it didn't quite turn out that way.

The video game console did record its best year since launching in November 2006, tallying up 3.55 million units. But its sales numbers - which were particularly disappointing during the important holiday season - fell short of chief rival the Xbox 360 and the market-leading Nintendo Wii. It all left analysts predicting a tough road for Sony.

Anyone been playing this?

I notice that in multi-player mode, on occasion the enemy's name tag can change to green - friendly colour. Seems to be a bug.

Maps, models, and graphics are on par with COD4. Some nice effects, e.g. sand blowing in strong winds.

Single player story narrative is not so strong, but the game play is good.

Fairly realistic, AI is good, and you only get to carry 2 guns, main and side-arm, plus 3 grenades.

Controls are a bit laggy, still not as good as mouse and keyboard.

Multi-player is well thought-out, servers can run different game types on the loaded map, without any waiting. You can level-up to get better weapons quite quickly.

Thank you for your synopsis... I don't get it! Why should PC game control be so much better than a specialized controller on a game box!! Defies reason!

At least the game is tested using the standard controller we have, and mostly everyone is using the same controller, so its a level playing field.

They can easily add keyboard and mouse support, but that then means having separate multi-player games for keyboard and mouse players.

There's nothing wrong with the controller, it's just that you're never going to be able to achieve a wide range of controlled speed and movement with a tiny joystick.

I admit that having gotten use to the PS3 controller helps a great deal...I just don't get why a mouse should be better at this than a dedicated controller in a known hardware environment...one would think the mouse would stink at games and/or the controller would be be at least AS precise....But I am enjoying myself...just see lots of room for improvement...":O}

I'm really happy with where I put my money to be honest, PS3 has been great and with the emulators under Linux on the PS3 you have a great deal of further potential.

Emulators for older consoles, they run under Linux on the PS3.

You can run Fedora on your PS3 too, though you may want a larger hard disk to take full advantage of it. YouTube - Installing Fedora 10 on PS3 System

All your apps that you run on your desktop Fedora machine, thunderbird, firefox etc, all work on the PS3 under Fedora too.

Technically, Killzone is a marvel. The engine plays to all of the PS3's strengths while negating it's weaknesses. The game itself, while very good, isn't quite as strong as the engine on which it's built, but it's a great experience and one that I hope will be expanded upon with future installments.
